Cofis Gain First Away Victory of Season.
Cardiff Met 0 – 3 Caernarfon.
Caernarfon made the trip to the capital yesterday in search of their first away points of the season and, with the Cofis locked on eighteen Cymru Premier League points with Cardiff Met, it was very much a case of the fixture being what used is traditionally called a six pointer.
It was an almost perfect start for the Cofis when Darren Thomas, back after suspension, got on the end of a Ben Wynne cross at the far post in the third minute but he saw his goalbound effort blocked by a defender.
The hosts went close to going ahead in the twelfth minute after Thomas Price found Matthew Chubb free in the Caernarfon box but his powerful left foot effort cannoned off the bar. On twenty six minutes, Met captain Chris Baker fancied his chances with an effort from twenty yards, but the ball flew high and wide.
Caernarfon finished the half well and they were inches away from going in front just after the half hour mark. The ever dangerous Ben Wynne broke from midfield and went on a strong run on the right flank before entering the Met box and crossing to the far post, where Marsh-Hughes just about failed to reach the ball, with keeper Alex Lang stranded.
Josh Tibbetts was called into action just before the break as he got down well to his left to divert a Thomas Price effort for a corner, from which Emlyn Lewis headed over from close range.
It had been an evenly contest opening half, with both sides creating opportunities, but the second half was very much Caernarfon’s as Huw Griffiths’ men took control and put plenty of pressure on the hosts immediately from the restart.
Early on, Darren Thomas seemed to be brought down from behind on the edge of the box as he struck for goal but referee Ben Williams saw nothing wrong with the challenge and the next opportunity arrived on the hour mark after a Ben Wynne throw into the box was met by Gruff John, but his header lacked power and was directed directly at Lang.
Tibbetts thwarted Sam Jones a minute later and the deadlock was broken two minutes later when Alaric Jones brought Thomas down in the area, and Town captain Dion Donohue sent Lang the wrong way to score from the spot. It was the least the Cofis deserved after such a strong start to the second period.
Caernarfon doubled their lead in the seventy second minute when Noah Edwards, in the right full back position, found Fide O’Rourke in the box with a wonderful ball, and the striker finished confidently as Lang came off his line.
The visitors were full of confidence as the match entered its final stages and O’Rourke secured his brace, and Caernarfon’s third goal, in the last minute of normal time, getting on the end of a Thomas corner to head in from close range.
The victory was the Cofis’ first away from the Oval this season and sees them now up to joint third in the league, with Bala and Penybont, who they face at the Oval next Saturday and in another of those six pointers!
