Barry Town United 1 – 1 Caernarfon
Caernarfon secured a hard earned point at Jenner Park and will probably feel that they deserved more after an encouraging performance.
The hosts were quick off the mark and threatened twice early on, the first time after just four minutes when Ollie Hulbert cut in from the left and beat McMullen with an excellent effort but the ball rebounded to safety after cannoning off the keepers’ left hand post. Sam Snaith went close two minutes later but he dragged the ball wide of the upright.
Caernarfon went ahead in the eighth minute after smart work between Mendes and Adams, with the latter threading the ball through to Louis Lloyd, who calmly beat the advancing Luc Rees to put the Cofis ahead.
The lead lasted of all two minutes however as a long punt from Nolan glanced off defender Stef Edwards and Willmott crossed the ball from the byline and Snaith rushed in before Sears to toe poke the ball past McMullen from four yards.
Caernarfon did not let the disappointment of conceding a leveller so early after their opener affect them and they dominated large periods of the first half, certainly creating a host of opportunities to go ahead.
A Matty Jones free kick in the twenty first minute found Mendes in the box and when he set up Adam Davies, the big striker did well to beat a defender and the keeper with his shot but the ball hit the bar and bounced clear.
Rees denied Zack Clarke seven minutes later and was in action again on the half hour mark to keep out a Gosset piledriver.
Cofi number one McMullen was forced into action four minutes before the break when Hulbert raced through on goal but the Northern Ireland international did well to rush out and steal the ball off the striker’s feet.
Adam Davies was twice thwarted in injury time as defenders blocked two of his efforts in quick succession whilst Lloyd was denied his brace when Rees pulled off another excellent save just before the half-time whistle blew.
The second half was a much cagey affair as the sides seemed to cancel each other out and Town were limited to just two goalscoring opportunities, the first mid-way through the half when Rees got his fingertips to a Lloyd rocket and then, two minutes later Lloyd crossed for Joe Faux, who arrived at the near post but headed into the side netting.
