Haverfordwest were the visitors to the Go Goodwins Stadium on Saturday. The Bluebirds defeated the Cofis in last season’s European Play Off final but have found this season tough going and they travelled to North Wales second from bottom position in the Cymru Premier League. However, it is generally felt that this is a false position for Tony Pennock’s men and they certainly did not play like a bottom half side in this fixture.
Iit was an even half and both sides created decent goalscoring opportunities
The hosts could have gone ahead in the ninth minute when Adam Davies put Siȏn Bradley through but the winger could not manage to beat the onrushing Luc Rees, who pulled off the first of numerous fine saves during a busy afternoon.
Kenniford tested Connor Roberts in the seventeenth minute with a low drive that the home stopper did well to get down to and just a minute later he denied Shepard.
Davies went close with an effort on the turn from twelve yards on thirty minutes which tested Kenniford whilst Ahmun missed the target when well placed two minutes later.
Town began the second half on top and Bradley was again denied by Kenniford three minutes in as he rushed off his line close the angle for the Caernarfon favourite. The hosts were pressing forward and pushing their opponents back as they began dominating and they were rewarded with an opening goal on fifty eight minutes, an excellent cross from Matty Jones finding Davies in the box and the big number nine did well to get down to the ball and deftly headed past the despairing Kenniford.
The Cofis doubled their lead sixty second later as Josh Lock found Bradley out wide. He jinked his way past two defenders on the way into the penalty area and hit an unstoppable drive into the top far corner of the net. It was a classic Brads moment to mark his two hundredth appearance for the club.
The hosts were disappointed five minutes later when the referee waved play on after what seemed a foul on Phil Mooney but the visitors took advantage and scored through Owain Jones, who punced to finish from close range after Roberts had thwarted Ahmun.
Caernarfon were knocking on the door in search of a third for most of remaining time but Kenniford saved his side from going further behind by saving from Connor Evans and Davies, twice, whilst Josh Lock also went close.
A failure to clinch that third goal came back to haunt Caernarfon late on as they failed to deal with a cross into their area in the ninety ninth minute and, despite two attempts to do clear, the ball landed at the feet of Shepard, who powered in a drive from sixteen yards to take a share of the points.
