Nomads Too Good For Cofis.
Caernarfon 0 – 4 Connahs Quay Nomads.
Caernarfon’s excellent start to the season was ended abruptly on Friday evening as they played second best to a rampant Connahs Quay side.
The Cofis cannot complain about the result, but Richard Davies and his squad will also know that they could have done better for at least two of the goals and, if they are to continue to prove the doubters wrong this season they will need to learn from their mistakes.
The visitors began the match well and, in all honesty set the pattern of play for the entirety of the match within the first ten minutes, when the Cofis could hardly get on the ball, and fell behind to a Declan Poole effort from close range after the hosts could not clear a throw into their penalty area.
Town stopper Lewis Webb saved his side on numerous occasions in the opening half, and a save to deny Harrington in the twenty sixth minute was the stand out, as the keeper fingertipped the ball away from the top left hand corner of his net.
For Caernarfon, opportunities were in very short supply and the nearest they cam to equalising was when they finally started to put a few moves together in the ten minutes before the break, Darren Thomas and Zack Clarke both failing to cause Rushton much anxiety in goal.
Caernarfon began the second period with a bit more energy and Louis Lloyd went close early doors before a Marc Williams screamer from twenty five yards sailed six inches over the bar.
Unfortunately this early second half pressure against the Nomads proved to be the final time that the hosts were in the game as they fell behind to a second goal against the early run of play. Town could not manage to deal with a corner to the far post and an initial header from Nash struck the bar and fell onto the head of former Caernarfon player Jack Kenny, who nodded in from a yard out.
Jordan Davies added a third from the spot in the sixty eighth minute after being brought down by Webb, and another former Town favourite, Noah Edwards, added a fourth for the visitors from close range seven minutes later.
It had been an excellent performance from the Nomads, who seem to be a much better footballing side than in years gone. No longer are they looking for an aerial bombardment into opponents’ penalty area and seem to be much happier playing the ball around the park before creating their opportunities.
Caernarfon, meanwhile, will like their wounds before trying to rebound at Aberystwyth next Saturday.
