Town End Wretched Run.
Airbus 0 – 3 Caernarfon.
Caernarfon finally ended a wretched run of results with a hard fought but ultimately comfortable victory over Airbus last night.
The Cofis had lost six successive matches heading to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium and knew that the three points was imperative if they are to make a genuine attempt at finishing the season in the fourth play-off spot.
The evening could not have started better for the visitors who went ahead in the second minute, as a result of former Town favourite Gareth Edwards bringing Rob Hughes down in the area, and Hughes dusted himself off to put his side ahead from the spot.
The action was end to end stuff and Josh Tibbetts came to Caernarfon’s rescue twice in quick succession as first Adam Davies and then Leblanc-Akpo threatened.
At the other end, Lewis Dutton rushed off his line to deny Danny Gosset, who had been put through by Joe Faux but the home stopper was given no chance by Faux in the twenty first minute after Noah Edwards had slipped the ball through two defenders to the flying winger, who finished well from six yards.
Caernarfon appealed for a second penalty two minutes later as Darren Thomas’s close range effort seemed to hit a defender’s arm, but referee David Morgan was not convinced and waved away any appeals. The hosts had the ball in the Cofis net in the twenty seventh minute following a melee in the Caernarfon area but Mr Morgan had seen an infringement and the effort was ruled out.
Dutton kept his side within touching distance with saves from Edwards and Faux and whilst the Wingmakers threatened on the break, it seemed a matter of time before Huw Griffith’s men would extend their lead.
The third goal arrived a minute after the break as Darren Thomas won the ball off a defender and, seeing Dutton off his line, the Cofi Messi lobbed him superbly to put his side into an unassailable lead.
Further efforts from Thomas, Rhys Alun Williams and Joe Faux all failed to hit the target as the visitors kept their grip on the match and created plenty of opportunities to add a four.
Tibbets produced a stunning full length save to deny Elliott Orton’s powerful low effort and, despite continuing to boss the action, the Cofis had to settle for a 3-0 victory.
Town manager Huw Griffiths will have been pleased with the victory and especially the performances of his two recent additions to the squad. Both debutants, Cai Powell-Roberts and Rhys Alun Williams seemed to settle into the side quickly and began their time at Caernarfon with very encouraging performances.
